Tanning Tips

This one might seem obvious but not exfoliating is one sin that tan can’t hide! False tan sinks into dry skin, leaving dark patches that look entirely unnatural (sometimes scaly looking, let’s be honest, a little bit euuu). Slay away any dead skin cells on your body with a coarse scrub, focusing on rough spots (knees, elbows, ankles, and heels) For your face, use a cleanser with glycolic or salicylic acid and/or a good facial exfoliator

Avoid anything oil-based, since it leaves behind residue, and residue can cause streaks!

Ok, you have your exfoliation done and you want to be the ultimate prep queen so you’ll need to add a little moisture back into your skin before you get your tan on. Use a lightweight lotion around any dry spots to keep them from turning dark or orange.

This separates gorgeous glows from terrible tans. With a clean tan mitt (bare hands are never a great idea), Smooth on your potion of choice in circular motions, approximately one large coin size at a time. Start at your ankles (avoiding feet) and work your way up to your shoulders, working your way down your arms. Finish off by using what tan residue is left on your mitt and work into hands and toes (making sure you hit all those in-between areas)

We’d always recommend not using a body tan on your face, as some can cause your face to breakout! After you choose your face tan, Apply a small amount where you’d naturally tan (forehead, cheeks, the bridge of your nose, and your chin) and blend outward with your fingertips. Be extra careful around the nose and above the top lip—these areas pick up more color because they tend to be drier. Using what’s left on your fingers, feather the tanner out into your hairline and past the jawbone.

Give your tan some time to dry (up to 10mins) Want to skip that sticky feeling? Shake a little talc all over, it will help stop tan from transferring onto your clothes

Mistakes happen but it’s what you do to fix them that really counts doll. If streaks or blotches appear- Rub half a lemon on the area and lightly wipe it with a damp towel. We would always recommend wiping down the palms of your hands and the soles of your feet with a damp towel after your tan application to prevent any tell-tale signs too!
